Why web and AI skills matter for diploma students

  • Web presenceShops, workshops and clinics need simple websites; HTML, CSS and JavaScript let you build one.
  • AI inside everyday toolsSearch, chatbots, translation and code assistants — know what they can and cannot do.
  • Technical workplacesDrawings, inventories and quality records are increasingly checked with AI-assisted software.
  • Office workDrafting and data cleaning can be assisted; accuracy and communication stay human.

Looking beyond basic concepts

  • Level one: use AI tools sensibly and check their output.
  • Level two: understand the web — pages, styles, scripts, forms and hosting.
  • Level three: build a portfolio, small business site or form-based tool.
  • Level four: specialise in front-end, back-end, data, UI design or AI in your branch.

A twelve-week plan after a skills seminar

  • Weeks one to three: HTML and CSS, and rebuild a simple page.
  • Weeks four to six: basic JavaScript and Python.
  • Weeks seven to nine: a small site or tool, with a hosted AI service for one defined task.
  • Weeks ten to twelve: finish the project, write it up and ask for feedback.

Responsible and honest use of AI

Follow your institute’s policy, verify important claims, credit sources and be honest about what you built yourself.

“AI tools work best in the hands of people who understand the underlying subject.”
